Stay Fit on the Road

Start the new year off right by making sure to stay healthy and fit while RVing. Being on the road can actually be a huge help for your goals if you look at things with a positive mind. If you’re on the road and you feel stuck, here are some tips to help you stay consistent with your fitness goals.

Use your RV to your Advantage

Just like we mentioned in “How to Keep your New Year’s Resolutions While RVing,” the fact that you’re traveling in an RV can actually help create a far better experience when getting a workout in. If you’re starting small, there are many simple things you can do right in your RV park, to help you stay in shape.

Most people love to explore the campground (or the surrounding area) they’re staying in. Taking a walk outside and going for a little adventure counts as exercise. If you’re traveling with your dog, like so many do, take them on a little walk with you. Start with a 20 minutes walk, then increase your time to 30 and 45 minutes if you can. Not only will that help you physically, but it’ll help you mentally as well.

If you’re already somewhat athletic and you’re looking to do a little more than just walk, feel free to run laps around the area. No one will think you’re weird. Perhaps, you can stay at a campground with a little more amenities. Many parks nowadays feature things like pools, where you can go swimming, lakes, to go canoeing, and even sports areas, like tennis or volleyball. See who’s out there playing and join in, or see if anyone around wants to. You’ll have fun, stay fit, and make new friends all at the same time.

Quick Workouts Inside the RV

You don’t even need to go too far from your rig. If you’ve got a few feet of free space outside, it’s perfect to do things like jumping jacks, burpees, and other cardio/aerobic exercises. Use your picnic table as a tool, climb a tree, or do some push ups/sit ups on the top of your RV.

If you’ve got a decent size unit, or maybe working out in front of other campers isn’t your style, there are tons of quick workouts you can do inside your rig. Invest in a set of free weights, they’re portable, discreet, and versatile so you can do a plethora of workouts within just a few square feet. With free weights, you can do things from arm exercises to chest, and even ab exercises.
