When we say we’re passionate about RVing, the outdoors, and parks, we mean it! This past Friday we did our part to expand the local park system. RVshare employees headed out to Summit Metro Parks in Akron to help turn the former Valley View Golf Club on Cuyahoga Street into a wooded area within Cascade Valley Metro Park. How did volunteers help? By planting thousands of walnut and oak nuts that were collected from local, native trees. See the story featured on Cleveland.com.
Armed with shovels, trowels, and big bags of nuts, we were loaded onto hay trucks and taken to our designated planting areas. We were lucky enough to enjoy a beautiful, warm day of planting, surrounded by the changing leaves and sunshine.
Not only does a day of volunteering provide an amazing way to give back to the community we live in, but it’s also a great team building exercise for employees. We all spent a day away from our computer screens talking, laughing, and enjoying time in nature.
Our day of volunteering wouldn’t have been complete without slingshotting some of the nuts over the open field! Volunteers lined up to load catapults with leftover nuts to see whose would go the farthest. Finally, the team was rewarded for their hard work and enjoyed some relaxation at happy hour to keep the team building going.
