We are a month into the new year — which means it’s officially time to start getting serious about planning this year’s travels. But where should you go, and how should you get there?
Although we might be partial to motorhomes and travel trailers, we here at RVshare love travel in ALL its many forms. But we also know that the “perfect trip” means something different for everybody.
So if you’re still figuring out where to wander this summer (or spring, or fall), here are our best suggestions based on your zodiac sign.
Aquarius (January 20 – February 18)
Social, free-spirited, and cerebral, an Aquarius needs a vacation that will stimulate his active mind… and maybe afford a chance to combat his natural tendency toward over-planning and inflexibility. For an engaging adventure with just the right amount of unexpected surprises, we recommend a backpacking trip in a foreign destination — preferably one where you don’t speak the language. (Yet!)
Where to: Any foreign country (or better yet, a string of them) with nothing but a backpack.
Who to go with: Either alone, to promote engaging with the locals, or with one close friend.
Vacation activities: Eating regional delicacies to finding your way to a local’s birthday soiree, this trip is all about finding yourself by losing yourself.
How to get there: Plane
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Intuitive, compassionate, and obsessed with self-expression, we recommend Pisces find their way to an artistic retreat in the mountains, preferably inhabiting a well-stocked, cozy cabin in a community of others doing creative work. You can while away your days making art and music before joining the group for a communal meal and maybe a hand-strummed song or two around the campfire. Travel to your destination by train for an extra dose of reflective time — you won’t have to worry about driving, and it’s hard not to be inspired when you’re watching the country fly by your window.
Where to: A cozy cabin in the mountains.
Who to go with: Solo — you’ll make lots of friends once you get there!
Vacation activities: Reading, writing, music-making, and wandering through nature.
How to get there: Train
Aries (March 21 – April 19)
Confident, enthusiastic, and determined, Aries is the quintessential fire sign — which means her vacation needs to bring some serious excitement to the table. Our recommendation? Block several weeks out of your hectic work schedule and jet off to a wonderful wilderness, perhaps hiring a local guide to help you learn to live off the land.
Where to: An African safari or Australian walkabout.
Who to go with: Bold Aries could easily go it alone, but you could also bring your family with you, leading them through an adventure they might not have thought to take on their own accord.
Vacation activities: Hiking through the jungle, engaging with local cultures and eating some (very) exciting new foods. We know you won’t turn your brave nose up at the really “weird” stuff, like insects!
How to get there: Plane
Taurus (April 20 – May 20)
Patient, reliable, and deeply committed to his loved ones, Taurus deserves a decadent vacation more than most — and his appreciation of the finer things means his trip really is all about the journey. Whether it’s wine tasting in Napa or taking a culinary tour through Tuscany, this earth sign should spend a few days living in the lap of luxury, and taking in all the delicacies and experiences his sophisticated destination has to offer.
Where to: Someplace renowned for its food, wine, or both.
Who to go with: Nobody but your sweetheart. You’ll enjoy all the pleasures of your destination in the daytime together before retreating to your cozy, romantic abode at night.
Vacation activities: Wine tasting, orchestrated meals, and shopping for luxury items in locally-owned boutiques. And maybe something a little more adrenaline-inducing to round it out — a hot air balloon ride, perhaps?
How to get there: Personal car or private jet
Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Known for his mercurial nature, Gemini needs a dynamic and engaging vacation — one that satisfies his insatiable need for intellectual stimulation and conversation. An organized tour of a far-off destination offers bountiful social opportunities, all while offering a smorgasbord of cultural and historical education.
Where to: A far-off, foreign land.
Who to go with: A professional tour group — i.e., a set of strangers (who won’t be strange for very long!)
Vacation activities: Touring local museums and attractions will take an ample amount of time, but Gemini will probably be even more moved by dinner conversations with his companions.
How to get there: Plane or ship
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
A bit of a homebody, it can take some convincing to get Cancer to take a vacation. But traveling in an RV basically means bringing home along with you — and chances are there’s something amazing to discover without putting too many miles on the odometer! Seek out local parks and federal recreation sites in your area, and consider taking a low-key family camping trip for a weekend. You might be surprised how much a simple change of scenery can refresh you!
Where to: A local or state park nearby Cancer’s home.
Who to go with: The family.
Vacation activities: Fishing during the day and relaxing by the campfire at night — with an ample supply of s’mores ingredients, of course.
How to get there: RV
Leo (July 23 – August 22)
This year is the right time for this fire sign to find herself in tropical paradise, soaking up the rays during the day and dancing the night away until the sun, at long last, reappears. Bring your loyal squad of friends for company — everyone knows you’re the leader, anyway. Make the journey just as much of a party as the destination(s) by taking a cruise ship!
Where to: A tropical island (or five)
Who to go with: Your squad of followers — er, friends
Vacation activities: Relaxing in the sunshine and partying hard at night
How to get there: Cruise ship
Virgo (August 23 – September 22)
Detail-oriented sometimes to a fault, Virgo needs to let loose a bit on her upcoming trip — without sacrificing the space she needs to feel safe and sane. Traveling by RV is the perfect way to combine the flexibility and freedom of the open road with the comfort and coziness of having your own private retreat… and the serendipity of the road means Virgo will have to let go of her overly-committed planning style. (Which she might just find liberating!)
Where to: Wherever the road may lead. Resist the urge to get too specific before you set off!
Who to go with: Go solo! Adventuring alone will help Virgo maintain the independence and space she needs while also challenging her to break outside of her shy-ish shell and meet some new people. (A handsome stranger, perhaps?)
Vacation activities: Hiking, climbing, or wandering down city streets, this Virgo vacation is all about exploring new destinations with as little planning as possible.
How to get there: RV
Libra (September 23 – October 22)
Hardworking, fair-minded, and always looking for creative solutions to social problems, Libra needs to get out of the office and back into the great outdoors. Whether it’s a trek through the African savannah or a tour of the U.S. national parks, we recommend you grab your favorite person and head for a spot with lots of sky, sat. While an RV could render the trip more comfortable, Libra does like a little bit of a challenge — so up the ante by making it a tent-camping trip.
Where to: An outdoorsy tour, perhaps of several American national parks.
Who to go with: Your best friend or romantic partner.
Vacation activities: Hiking, biking, climbing, horseback riding, river rafting — whatever gets you closer to nature (and, let’s be honest: out of your own head a bit!)
How to get there: By car — the road trip is part of the journey!
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Resourceful (and yes, sometimes stubborn), the Scorpio’s way to wind down is to deal with a challenge or puzzle. Taking on a new adventure sport is a great way to combine outdoor serenity with a healthy obstacle. So choose a mountain to climb or a sky to go sky-diving in, grab a sleeping bag, and bring an old friend to reconnect with. When you return home, you’ll be ready to resume your many leadership roles with renewed fervor.
Where to: A climbing or hiking destination — think Mount Everest or Kilimanjaro
Who to go with: Your oldest friend, even if you’ve been out of touch for a while.
Vacation activities: Adventure, adventure, adventure! When you’re not scaling a rock wall or hiking a hardcore trail, you’d best be bungee jumping or sky diving.
How to get there: Plane, train, automobile — whatever gets you there fastest.
Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21)
A passionate fire sign who’s no stranger to travel, Sagittarius already knows where she wants to go this year — and she’s likely going without much more than her backpack with her. We’re picturing a motorcycle tour through Southeast Asia, staying at a string of hostels when you’re not sleeping under the stars.
Where to: Southeast Asia or another foreign destination
Who to go with: Solo, of course. Sagittarius can’t help but make new friends no matter where she goes.
Vacation activities: Open-air camping or cavorting in the local bars, this sign knows how to make the most of any destination and get a one-of-a-kind experience.
How to get there: Plane — and then motorcycle once you arrive
Capricorn (December 22 – January 19)
This well-grounded earth sign could do with some high-flown adventures, even if he’s a little reticent to take them on. But traveling to a foreign destination can be made more attractive to the Capricorn when it means treating himself to all the finer things, including the best hotels, restaurants, and spas. Jet off to a sophisticated European locale, like Paris, and when it comes to amenities, spare no expense. We know self-control is your bailiwick… but go ahead and let loose. Live a little!
Where to: A foreign urban metropole, like Paris or Barcelona
Who to go with: The family or your spouse.
Vacation activities: Spas, shopping, fine dining and live entertainment.
How to get there: Plane — first class, if possible!
What’s your sign — and where are you going this year? No matter where the stars take you, have fun!
